Centrist Democrat led with Republican Steve Garvey in second, as early results show progressives Katie Porter and Barbara Lee trailing
Adam Schiff, the centrist Democratic congressman, was declared the first-place winner in California’s US Senate primary race and will face off with Republican Steve Garvey, a former professional baseball player, in the November election.
Schiff, a pro-Israel Democrat, was called the winner by the Associated Press soon after the polls closed. With roughly 60% of votes still to be counted, Schiff had earned 34% of votes and Garvey had earned 31%. The two progressive Democratic candidates were trailing far behind, with the Orange county congresswoman Katie Porter in third place and the Bay Area congresswoman Barbara Lee in the fourth spot.
