Investigation under way into Alaska Airlines flight that lost a door after takeoff – video report

A plug door tore off from the side of an Alaska Airlines jet after takeoff from Portland, Oregon, en route to Ontario, California. The incident depressurised the plane and forced the pilots to turn around and land safely back at Portland with all 171 passengers and six crew onboard. US regulators ordered the temporary grounding of 171 Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft after the incident. NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy said the plug door was recovered from a back yard in Portland, and investigations into how this happened are still ongoing. She added that design flaws were not suspected ‘at this time’
