In his first public appearance since Republicans racked up major losses in the midterm elections, President Donald Trump boasted Wednesday about the White House ballroom under construction and largely skirted talk about his party’s performance.

Democrats won secretary of state contests in four presidential battlegrounds while making inroads in red territory, giving them election oversight authority in key states for the 2028 elections.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., said Democrats will deliver a “dramatic change” in direction after winning back the majority in the midterm elections. Jeffries will make history as the first Black speaker of the House.
