Alejandro Mayorkas dismisses impeachment process as \u2018politically motivated\u2019 in letter to Republican committee chair<\/p>\n
A House committee convened Tuesday to consider two articles of impeachment against the homeland security secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, who attacked Republicans\u2019 accusations against him as \u201cfalse\u201d, \u201cbaseless\u201d and \u201cinaccurate\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a letter sent to the Republican chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security just hours before the markup hearing began, Mayorkas dismissed the impeachment process as \u201cpolitically motivated\u201d. House Republicans have presented no clear evidence that Mayorkas committed high crimes and misdemeanors, which is the requirement for impeachment, but their resolution accuses the cabinet secretary of refusing to comply with the law and breaching public trust.<\/p>\n
