Donald Trump\u2019s plans to make dramatic cuts to the United States\u2019 international aid budget could be a \u201cbig strategic mistake\u201d that allows China to step in and further its global influence, the UK foreign secretary has said.<\/p>\n
David Lammy cautioned that Britain\u2019s own experience of merging the Department for International Development into the Foreign Office, announced by Boris Johnson in 2020 with little fanfare, was a serious blow to Britain\u2019s \u201csoft power\u201d in developing countries and beyond.<\/p>\n
