Israel\u2019s genocide was only on pause: for Palestinians woken on Monday night by a vicious wave of airstrikes, the resumption was no less shocking. More than 400 people<\/a> \u2013 many of them children \u2013 were slaughtered in a matter of hours, in an assault that reportedly received the \u201cgreen light\u201d from Donald Trump<\/a>. This mayhem was swiftly followed by evacuation orders \u2013 that is, forced displacement \u2013 raising the possibility of renewed ground operations. Israel\u2019s excuse? A confected claim that Hamas hasn\u2019t observed the terms of January\u2019s so-called ceasefire agreement \u2013 the terms of which Israel itself has broken over and over again.<\/p>\n In the wake of the attacks, CNN reported<\/a> that Israel\u2019s onslaught threw \u201cdoubt on the fragile ceasefire\u201d. Orwellian doesn\u2019t even begin to describe such framing. As it is, there was no \u201cceasefire\u201d: not if your definition is firing ceasing. A single Israeli<\/a> has been reported to have died in Gaza during the \u201cceasefire\u201d: a contractor killed by the Israeli army, who mistook him for a Palestinian.
