The deaths of major public figures can provoke the most grotesque outpourings of hypocrisy. So it goes for Pope Francis<\/a>, now lauded by leaders and media outlets that were complicit in the very evils he condemned. \u201cPope Francis was a pope for the poor, the downtrodden and the forgotten,\u201d said Keir Starmer, a prime minister who stripped the winter fuel payment from many vulnerable pensioners before launching an assault on disability benefits predicted to drive up to 400,000 Britons<\/a> into poverty. \u201cHe promoted \u2026 an end to \u2026 suffering across the globe,\u201d wrote Joe Biden<\/a>, enabler of Israel\u2019s genocidal assault on Gaza.<\/p>\n Indeed, the fate of Gaza seemed to preoccupy the pope\u2019s final years. In his last Easter address<\/a>, he condemned the \u201cdeath and destruction\u201d and resulting \u201cdramatic and deplorable humanitarian situation\u201d \u2013 a powerful sermon that hardly any western media outlets covered. Indeed, you will struggle to find much prominent coverage of any of his courageous statements on Gaza, such as: \u201cThis is not war.
