Congressional lawmakers denounced the treatment of Mahmoud Khalil and R\u00fcmeysa \u00d6zt\u00fcrk, the students being detained by US immigration authorities for their pro-Palestinian activism, as a \u201cnational disgrace\u201d during a visit to the two facilities in Louisiana where each are being held.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe stand firm with them in support of free speech,\u201d the Louisiana congressman Troy Carter, who led the delegation, said during a press conference after the visits on Tuesday. \u201cThey are frightened, they\u2019re concerned, they want to go home.\u201d<\/p>\n
