During his state of the nation address<\/a> earlier this year, Hungary\u2019s prime minister, Viktor Orb\u00e1n, outlined a chilling vision of the country\u2019s future. Signalling a new level of aggression in his campaign against the truth if he is returned to power in elections on 12 April, Orb\u00e1n vowed to purge the country of \u201cbought journalists\u201d and \u201cfake civil society organisations\u201d.<\/p>\n Media repression isn\u2019t just a Hungarian problem. According to the V-Dem Institute in Sweden, a leading democracy monitor<\/a>, it is the most commonly used weapon in the authoritarian arsenal.
