Vice President JD Vance<\/a> said that Iran has “two pathways” it can take regarding the conclusion of the war as President Donald Trump\u2019s 12-hour deadline is looming Tuesday for the regime to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face strikes on its power plants and bridges.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vance, speaking in Hungary, also said he is praying that the United States is on “God\u2019s side” in its pursuit to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“There are two pathways that this thing is\u00a0ultimately going\u00a0to end.\u00a0First of all, the United States has\u00a0largely\u00a0accomplished\u00a0its military\u00a0objectives,” Vance said. “There are still some things that\u00a0we’d\u00a0like to do, for example, on Iranian ability to manufacture weapons, that\u00a0we’d\u00a0like to do a little bit more work on militarily.\u00a0But fundamentally, the military\u00a0objectives\u00a0of the United States have been completed.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I think there really are two pathways, and\u00a0I’m\u00a0oversimplifying this a little bit, but I think pathway one is where the Iranians decide\u00a0they’re\u00a0going to be a normal country.\u00a0They’re\u00a0not going to fund terrorism anymore.\u00a0They’re\u00a0going to be\u00a0part\u00a0of the\u00a0world\u00a0system of commerce and exchange,” Vance continued. “And\u00a0that’s\u00a0going to mean much better things for them economically.\u00a0It’s\u00a0going to mean better things for the peace and safety of the world.\u00a0It’s\u00a0going to mean a lot of good things for a lot of people all over the planet.\u00a0That’s\u00a0option\u00a0A.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Option\u00a0B is that the Iranians\u00a0don’t\u00a0come to the table and\u00a0they stay committed to terrorism<\/a>, to terrorizing their neighbors, not just Israel but of course their Arab neighbors too. Then the economic situation\u00a0in\u00a0Iran is going to continue to be\u00a0very, very bad. And frankly, it will\u00a0probably get\u00a0worse,” the vice president said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The president also has been very clear\u00a0that while the Iranians are trying to exact as much economic cost through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States has the ability to extract much greater economic costs on Iran than Iran has\u00a0an ability to extract costs on us or on our friends in the world,” Vance also said. “So\u00a0I hope that\u00a0they’re\u00a0smart. The president has set a deadline for about 12 hours from now, and the United States,\u00a0we’re\u00a0going to find out. But\u00a0there’s\u00a0going to be a lot of negotiation between now and then, and\u00a0I’m\u00a0hopeful that it\u00a0gets to\u00a0a good resolution.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vance told reporters Tuesday that his attitude toward military conflict<\/a> has been to pray that “we are on God’s side.”<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re\u00a0doing this because\u00a0we\u00a0don’t\u00a0want a regime that\u00a0has committed acts of\u00a0terrorism to have\u00a0the\u00a0world’s most dangerous\u00a0weapon. Because that would mean a lot of innocent people\u00a0dead,” Vance said about the war. “I certainly hope that God agrees with the decision that Iran\u00a0shouldn’t\u00a0have a nuclear weapon, but\u00a0I’ll\u00a0keep praying about it.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vance also accused Iran of unleashing “acts of economic terrorism” that are obstructing the free flow of gas and oil around the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“So\u00a0they’ve\u00a0got to know,\u00a0we’ve\u00a0got tools in our toolkit that we so far\u00a0haven’t\u00a0decided to use. The president\u00a0of the\u00a0United States can decide to use them, and he will decide to use them\u00a0if the Iranians\u00a0don’t\u00a0change their course of conduct,” he warned.\u00a0<\/p>\n
