Fearmongering about anti-war marches have not stopped more and more of us from speaking out against Israel\u2019s actions<\/p>\n
On my way to a recent march, I found myself feeling nervous. Sitting on the tube with\u00a0my placard, its painted slogan calling for the release of hostages as well as a ceasefire, I realised I was\u00a0avoiding people\u2019s eyes and that my heart was racing. When I got out of the underground and heard the drums\u00a0and the chanting, I wondered if I should have\u00a0stayed home. As a Jew, was I safe?<\/p>\n
If I had taken advice from Robin Simcox, the government\u2019s commissioner for countering extremism, I would have stayed home. He stated last week that London turns \u201cinto a no-go zone<\/a> for Jews every weekend\u201d. He is following many others, such as the Telegraph<\/em>\u2019s Allison Pearson, who said that Jews were \u201ctoo intimidated<\/a> to venture into the heart of their own capital city\u201d, or Simon Schama, who said the marches were \u201cweekly public calls<\/a> for their [Jewish] annihilation\u201d, or the Jewish Chronicle<\/em>\u2019s Stephen Pollard<\/a>, who also called London on Saturdays a \u201cno-go zone for Jews\u201d.
