In March 2026, the Trump administration announced sanctions<\/a> targeting Rwanda\u2019s military and four senior officials for its role in abuses and military aggression in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Shortly after the announcement, one of the top teams competing in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) <\/a>\u2013 a premier continental league co-founded by NBA Africa \u2013 suddenly withdrew from the competition.
