For as long as I can remember, the White House correspondents\u2019 dinner was where the Washington press corps and Washington officials basked in each other\u2019s celebrity.<\/p>\n
Saturday night\u2019s dinner ended abruptly with gunshots<\/a>, Secret Service officers screaming at attendees to \u201cget down<\/a>\u201d, Donald Trump<\/a> and other officials being rapidly ushered out of the ballroom, plates crashing and chairs falling, and general pandemonium.<\/p>\n Robert Reich, a former US secretary of labor, is a professor of public policy emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley.
