When JD Vance<\/a> spoke at the Richard M Nixon presidential library last week about his new book<\/a> on his journey from atheism to an allegedly devout Catholicism, he raised eyebrows by minimizing<\/a> Watergate<\/a>. \u201cThe idea that it [took] down a presidency is crazy,\u201d he said. He said it was the \u201cdeep state that took down Richard Nixon<\/a>\u201d\u2013 not the 37th president\u2019s implication in serious crimes.<\/p>\n Commentators were shocked.
