There are moments in sports when you realize people aren\u2019t just watching the score any more. They\u2019re watching values. They\u2019re watching who speaks. They\u2019re watching who stays silent. And they\u2019re watching what those silences say.<\/p>\n
I found myself thinking about that throughout this World Cup. On paper, Sunday\u2019s final looked simple. Spain<\/a> v Argentina<\/a>. Two footballing giants and countries with glorious soccer histories.
