{"id":78261,"date":"2026-09-04T03:55:13","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T08:55:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news2shorts.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/04\/trump-administration-proposes-stripping-tax-exempt-status-from-schools-using-race-based-programs\/"},"modified":"2026-09-04T03:55:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T08:55:13","slug":"trump-administration-proposes-stripping-tax-exempt-status-from-schools-using-race-based-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news2shorts.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/04\/trump-administration-proposes-stripping-tax-exempt-status-from-schools-using-race-based-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump administration proposes stripping tax-exempt status from schools using race-based programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Trump administration proposed new regulations on Thursday to revoke the tax-exempt status of private schools and colleges if \u200bthey use race in admissions, scholarships or other school-administered programs, the latest effort by the federal government to root out diversity initiatives in education.<\/p>\n<p>The rules, proposed by the Treasury Department \u200cand Internal Revenue Service, aim to end what administration officials argue is discrimination against white students in favor of students of color.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Schools rebranding race-based preferences as equitable, inclusive, or diversity-enhancing does not change their discriminatory nature,&#8221; Treasury Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/category\/person\/scott-bessent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Bessent<\/a> said in a \u200bstatement.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal follows the Supreme Court&#8217;s 2023 <i>Students for Fair Admissions<\/i> decisions, which prohibited most <a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/politics\/duke-laws-alleged-race-based-admissions-accused-defying-supreme-court-ruling-doj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">race-conscious admissions<\/a> policies at colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/doj-opens-probe-prestigious-college-alleged-discrimination-favoring-minority-students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>DOJ OPENS PROBE INTO PRESTIGIOUS COLLEGE OVER ALLEGED DISCRIMINATION FAVORING MINORITY STUDENTS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Admissions, educational policies, scholarships and loans, athletics and &#8220;every other school-administered or \u200bschool-supported program&#8221; would be covered by the Treasury&#8217;s proposal.<\/p>\n<p>It would apply to any program that considers race, color, or national or ethnic origin &#8220;for any purpose,&#8221; including efforts to address past racial discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bTreasury estimated that the rules \u200bcould impact as many \u2060as 18,000 schools at all education levels and 750,000 students who could be affected because they may qualify for race-based scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal would not prevent private schools from having a \u200breligious mission, curriculum or program. Religious schools could continue to choose students \u200bbased on religious \u2060affiliation, according to the Treasury.<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury also said the proposal would not prohibit schools from helping disadvantaged students using race-neutral criteria, including income, geography or first-generation status.<\/p>\n<p>The new proposal is subject to a public comment period and would likely spark legal challenges if \u2060adopted.<\/p>\n<p>The American Association of University Professors, which advocates for academic freedom and has sued the administration \u200bto block funding cuts in the past, said it is considering legal action against the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is not neutral enforcement \u200cof \u2060civil-rights law.
